Though invented in 1991, it was only in 1999 that the name ‘Wi-Fi’ was coined by punning on the word ‘hi-fi’, highlighting the notion of fidelity. Obviously, the aim was to, also, create a name slightly catchier than ‘IEEE 802’! 25 years down the road, the world has changed immeasurably, thanks to the scope and reach of Wi-Fi technologies and innovations.
