Stories abound about the origins of Valentine’s Day – some trace it back to the festival of ‘Lupercalia’ celebrated by ancient Romans as a fertility festival full of weird pagan rites, others claim it as a day of remembrance of two pious men – both named Valentine – who were executed on the same day (February 14th) but different years.
Over time, of course, this ‘love’ festival has become hugely popular globally, creating billions of dollars of business – in the US, $448 million is spent only on candy! Check out this infographic to understand just how big the numbers are!!
