Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork in Japan, that is derived from traditional Chinese medicine. Shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’ and uses tactile techniques like kneading, soothing, tapping and stretching to give relief. Originating in the early 1900s, there are different styles of Shiatsu, all of which integrate traditional wisdom with modern medical knowledge.
You can even practice Shiatsu massage techniques on yourself, as explained in this infographic, and feel the difference. Plan a self-administered Shiatsu sequence depending on your needs and practice it 2-3 times a day. However, if you feel pain at any point, immediately stop.
