Waste is, literally, choking the planet – about 8.3 billion tons of plastic are dumped, as is household trash, industrial effluents, etc. What’s worse, plastic waste does not disintegrate, and it is assumed that over 76% of plastic waste ever created still exists, choking the oceans and the beaches.
Yet, only 9% waste is recycled, about 12% incinerated, and the remaining 79% accumulate in man-made landfills and natural environs. This infographic presents the recycling rate of household waste in England. There’s a long way to go for the EU target of 50% waste recycling by 2020!
