Blindness separates us from things, but deafness separates us from people – these words of Hellen Keller express how important hearing is for human communication. She goes on to state that deafness means the loss of the most vital stimulus…the sound of voice. In effect, it is hearing that brings voice which, in turn, brings language, thoughts, ideas, conversation.
