The pandemic has forced us all indoors, and for the most part that means lots of streaming video, video conferences, and doing our school work online. Everyone is home using the computer and other internet-connected devices unless they are the front-line workers in hospitals and grocery stores, so all this internet activity has put a serious strain on the systems.
In Europe streaming services are being asked to stream videos at lower resolution in order to save bandwidth, and in the United States people are having to increase internet capacity at home and use voice conferencing instead of videos whenever possible.
