FOMO – Fear of Missing Out. When you crave constant attention and go through deep bouts of anxiety and unhappiness at the thought of missing out on the ‘action’ or being left out of the party. When you’re constantly on social media checking whether there was something you missed and, then, stressing about why you missed it – has my popularity rating dropped? Do people not like me anymore?
As discussed in this infographic, FOMO may sound silly and childish, but it stems from deeper psychological insecurities, whose outcome can be unhealthy competitiveness, media addiction, sleep deprivation, emotional stress.
