It all started in the early 1900s when the Mexican Revolution of 1910 started the battle against dictatorship, but also drove desperate Mexicans in droves across the border in search of a safer and better life. They brought with them the practice of recreational marijuana.
And, thus, began the negative association of marijuana with unemployment and other Depression-led social issues, leading to major propaganda campaigns against Cannabis.
