What drives people to binge drink? Is there a difference between binge drinking and alcoholism? A sensitive subject but, on the face of it, the general perception that emerges is that binge drinking, unlike alcoholism, is an immature way to fit into an awkward social setting, or a fun once-in-a-while thing to do, almost like a party!
However, the statistics of binge drinking, as highlighted in this infographic, tell a very different story. Ease of access to alcohol can easily push a casual binge-drinker into alcoholism – already, US adults binge-drink (7 or more drinks) an average of once-a-week!
