Did you know that ‘antibiotic’ means ‘against life’?! In other words, an antibiotic is the drug that inhibits the growth of or destroys living microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc. They do their job by either killing the bacteria or inhibiting their growth process through self-copying or reproducing.
However, there is a fast-rising trend referred to as antibiotic resistance, where the bacteria becomes insensitive or immune to antibiotics, thus removing a major and, sometimes, only option for treatment. Understanding how antibiotic-resistant bacteria multiply and spread, as explained in this infographic, can sensitize people to alternate solutions.
