This story dates back to 1894 when Mr. Kellogg, a sanatorium supervisor, decided to feed his inmates bland foods made from grains, to tame their intemperate passions. He cooked some wheat, and left it to cool, while he went out for some work. He returned to find the wheat lumpy and stale and, being of frugal nature, he tried to convert it to pasta dough. Unfortunately, the dough cracked and broke into little flakes. Voila, Kellogg’s Flakes was invented!
