In 1941, a young man of 34 was wandering in the woods with his Irish Pointer, when he noticed that burrs from the burdock plant were stuck firmly to his pants as well as his dog’s hair. Irritated, but intrigued, he put the burrs under a microscope and, voila, he had figured out Velcro!
